Welcome

I’m a graphic designer and photographer based in Middlebury, Vermont, with over 25 years of experience as a designer and art director, as well as editorial photographer. I work in all areas of print- and web-based design, brand development and management, and specialize in portrait, outdoor, and documentary photography.

As a designer, my focus is on listening: to the client, to my colleagues, and to my own experience and instinct. Every design project begins with a conversation, with research, with getting to know everything I (and my colleagues) can about a particular office, program, product, service, school, and more. Collaborating with the clients, writers, marketing experts, and more, I work to give life to a visual vocabulary that both speaks authentically and surprises.

My photography is rooted in capturing natural, authentic portraits that speak to a person’s character and story, capturing everyday moments, and making connections with the life that surrounds us. Outside of the portrait documentary-style assignments, I deeply enjoy connecting with flora and fauna, and particularly love watching—and photographing—birds anywhere I happen to be. I find it both equal parts amazing and meditative.

My wife, Carolyn, and I share our life with our two rescue pups, Louise and Rosie, who happily occupy much of our waking moments. We also enjoy hiking, bird watching, playing (and listening to) music, growing flowers, traveling, chatting with locals while traveling, and so much more.
